World Sports Journalist Day celebrated at KPT Sports Complex

The World Sports Journalist Day (WSJD) was celebrated by the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS) at the KPT Sports Complex on July 1, a day in advance due to a webinar the following day in which quite a few of its members were due to participate. 

The WSJD is celebrated to mark the foundation of the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS), a professional body representing the sports media worldwide, on July 2 each year. The AIPS, with more than 9,500 members, has now proudly completed 100 years of its existence. 

Hockey Olympian Qamar Ibrahim, former squash champion Maqsood Ahmed, Secretary of Pakistan Boxing Federation, Asghar Baloch, were the eminent personalities present on the occasion, who shared their views on the significance of sports journalism. 

Noted sports journalist, Syed Khalid Mahmood, in his brief address, mentioned the fact that the sports pages of newspapers generally brought smiles on the faces of readers after going through disturbing stories of all kinds on front and back pages. He urged the sports editors and reporters to flash the glories of youngsters in particular in order to encourage them to continue working hard. 

An exhibition squash match was also played on the occasion which was watched with interest by lots of young athletes, believed to be regular users of facilities at KPT Sports Complex. The General Manager Sports of KPT, Major Mahmood Riaz, who hosted the event, pledged to continue facilitating sporting activities at their complex.
