Showcasing their exceptional skill set, speed, and control, Syed Hamza Hamid, Taimur Minwala, Muhammad Waqas, and D. Fatima Binte Azhar emerged victorious in their respective categories at the inaugural Hub Autocross held at the DHA City Track in Karachi on August 24.
Hamza Hamid initially trailed behind Omer Khurro after the first two laps on the 1.7-kilometer track.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, Hamid clocked an impressive 58.28 seconds in the third lap, securing the fastest time of the day and clinching the victory. Omer finished second while Shamiq Saeed came third.
Hamza’s remarkable comeback, vociferously cheered by the spectators, was notable as he had clocked over 1 min 05 seconds in his previous attempts.
In other categories, Taimur Minwala raced to victory in the Prepared Class, Muhammad Waqas triumphed in the Stock category.
In “A” category Faraz Sherwani was second and Omar Khan was third.
Uzair Magsi and Jaffar Magsi and Dr, Bilal Tahir got top three positions in “C” category. Dr. Fatima Binte Azhar from Lahore won the Ladies category. Dina Patel ended second while Bisma got third position.
Chief Organizer, Shujaat Sherwani, presented a special cash award of Rs 25,000 and a shield to Hamza Hamid, while Taimur, Waqas, and Fatima each received a shield and Rs 25,000 in cash.
The Sindh Governor, Kamran Tessori, who served as the chief guest, commended Shujaat Sherwani for organizing an exciting and thrilling event. He also took a lap around the track in a speedy car and praised Sherwani's contributions to the promotion and development of motorsport in Pakistan.
The event was also graced by Pakistan’s driving legends and top racing titleholders Nadir Magsi, Sahibzada Sultan Muhammad Ali, and Ronnie Patel, who presented awards to the winners.
The high-profile event drew hundreds of racing enthusiasts and families, who enjoyed the thrill and drama of the races, cheering for the participants and their classy cars.
